Brick Paving & Landscaping Inc., has been busy the last two years improving himself, which, by default, improves his business. “For the last two years, I have been in school in the city getting a certificate and license,” he said. His certificate is in landscape lighting, which is a great fit for his landscaping business, adding yet another dimension to Huerta's business. J Brick Paving & Landscaping Inc. was founded in 1996. For the last 28 years, they have been doing landscaping projects and Huerta said they specialize in stonework. “It’s all about paver patios, retaining walls, that kind of work,” he said. “It's also about driveways, patios, walkways, entrances.” It may be logical to think that a landscaping business naturally slows down in the colder months in the midwest. However, the amount of months that are slower might surprise people. Huerta said the company keeps working as long as the weather allows. “As long as the ground is not frozen, we try to be out there til Chrismas if possible,” Huerta said. Then the company will be back at work sometime in the middle of March. “What I can do is have some of the jobs in order to keep going through December. We prepare all the paver work and complete our clients projects ahead of time,” Huerta said. “In case it freezes, our base is already there and then we can just get going.” According to Dylan J., a client in Lake County: "I've been hiring Javier and J. Brick to perform projects at my ranch home for 12 years. In fact, just this week, Javier brought his crew to my ranch home to refresh and rejuvenate both my front and back porches. He and his men were on time, efficient and the work is impeccable. In fact, without my even asking, J. Brick replaced some of my existing pavers with brand new ones. That's taking the initiative! Their creativity and workmanship is unmatched and the best in Lake County. Sometimes, they will have to cover the work with a tarp. When the ground is frozen or covered in snow, Huerta can still meet with clients to plan the work they will begin come Spring. “I can still visit the clients and come out there make some drawings or whatever we need to to start lining jobs up,” he said. His certification in landscape lighting is a natural extension for a part of landscaping Huerta always included in design but can now do very much himself. “I'm always doing a little bit of lighting with patios and things like it,” he said. With J Brick approaching three decades in business, its growth tends to come from its existing clients who refer them to their friends. “I like working in the field out there with the guys,” he said. “I sell the jobs as well. I am the one to look at the properties and look at the plans and come up with the ideas, gIve them a date to start and go from there.
